Squint & Paediatric Eye Care

From squint (strabismus) correction to children's vision assessment, we provide gentle, child-friendly eye care — with computerised testing for all ages. Catching and treating eye problems early gives children the best start for healthy sight.

Healthy vision, from the very first years

A child's visual system develops rapidly in the early years, so spotting problems early is vital. A squint (strabismus) — where the eyes don't align together — is one of the most common issues, and if left untreated it can lead to lazy eye (amblyopia) and permanently weaker vision in one eye.

We assess and treat squint with glasses, patching, eye exercises or corrective surgery when needed, and provide gentle general eye care for children of all ages — in a calm, reassuring setting.

Signs a child may need an eye check

  • One or both eyes turning in, out, up or down
  • Squinting, tilting the head, or sitting very close to screens
  • Frequent eye-rubbing, watering or complaints of headaches
  • Difficulty reading, or a family history of squint or lazy eye

Why early treatment matters

The window for developing strong vision is in childhood. Treating squint and lazy eye early — often simply with glasses and patching — can prevent lasting visual weakness. When surgery is needed to align the eyes, it is safe, effective and can also greatly improve a child's confidence.

A calm experience for young patients

Children can find clinics daunting, so we keep the experience gentle and unhurried. Testing is done in a friendly, patient way, and we take time to explain everything to parents so you feel fully informed about your child's eye health.

FAQ

Questions about squint & paediatric

At what age should a child first have their eyes checked?

Any time a parent notices a concern — a turning eye, head tilt or difficulty seeing. Even without obvious signs, an early check is worthwhile if there's a family history of squint or lazy eye.

Is squint surgery safe for children?

Yes. Squint correction is a well-established, safe procedure done under appropriate anaesthesia. It aligns the eyes, and in many cases improves both vision and self-confidence.

Can a squint be treated without surgery?

Often, yes — depending on the type, glasses, patching for lazy eye, or eye exercises may be enough. Surgery is recommended only when it's the right option, and we'll explain clearly why.

Will my child need to cooperate for the tests?

Our testing is designed to be child-friendly and can be adapted to a child's age and comfort. We work patiently and involve parents throughout to keep children at ease.
